Bhagwad Geeta message helps with mental balance: Harvard Medical School’s Dr Macheri

PANAJI

It is very important to maintain a mental balance during the covid-19 pandemic and the message in Bhagwad Geeta would be helpful in strengthening energies at brain level. Endorsing this view, Dr Macheri Keshavan from the Harvard Medical School, Boston, in his editorial in the Indian Journal of Psychiatry’s latest edition stated that the three yogas mentioned in Bhagwad Geeta “ Dnyanyog, Karmayog and Rajyoga can prove to be the guiding forces in today’s difficult times.

Dr Macheri mentions that Bhagwad Geeta teaches us to go beyond narrow personal thinking and reminds us that Chaitanya (divine energy) has filled every empty space. “We should not think about our own personal benefits but discarding selfishness, we should think about the wellbeing of the entire community and society. Instead of thinking that wearing a mask would benefit me personally, we should think of the larger community and how it would be for the wellbeing of all,” he says.

In his write-up Dr Macheri states that the message in Geeta speaks of Nishkam Karma (actions without aiming at any remuneration) and as a doctor or a health worker, all should follow this teaching, so that nobody will feel distressed.
