VASCO: Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL) on Monday offered medical equipment worth Rs 22 lakh for the treatment of cataract to the Chicalim Sub District Hospital as part of its CSR initiative. Addressing a function, Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho said a new chapter in terms of cataract treatment had been opened up at the Chicalim SDH. "PPL has donated all medical equipment necessary to carry out cataract operations here. In the past, people had to travel all the way to Margao and Panaji for cataract operations and this will be a thing of the past,” said Godinho. "Things have substantially improved at the Chicalim SDH and we want to take it even further. I have spoken to Health Minister Vishwajit Rane to visit this hospital. I want to get more doctors, specialists and nurses, if necessary, and enhance facilities at the hospital that caters to the whole of Mormugao," said Godinho. PPL Chief Manufacturing Officer and unit head Nilesh Desai said the company wanted to support health and education under CSR activities. "The Chicalim SDH has always been connected with us even during Covid when our employees and contract workers visited here and the hospital has supported us in a large way. We realised that the Chicalim SDH was in need of equipment for cataract operations and we offered it to the hospital at a cost of Rs 22 lakh, so that it goes back to benefit of the people," said Desai.
