Cinephile Film Club will host the screening of the Japanese film Ikiru (1952) on February 24 at 6.30 pm. The 2.20 hours film is a masterpiece by the legendary director Akira Kurosawa and regularly finds a place in the ‘greatest films of all time’ lists. Even 70 years after its release, it remains a powerful, ageless, and extremely moving film. The story is about a bureaucrat, who is going through the motions of life, both at work, and personally. One day, he discovers that he has cancer and from there on he starts celebrating life. Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Anand and the Malayalam film Chitrashalabham, were loosely inspired by Ikiru. “The membership for the film club is now open, and interested film lovers can visit esg.co.in and register online. The membership is valid from the present day, till March 2023,” stated Sachin Chatte of Cinephile Film Club.
