Former Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson Nitin Chopdekar on Monday offered cleaning equipment like brooms, baskets, shovels and other items to MMC workers at the municipal garage.
Speaking to reporters, Chopdekar said he had gone to the municipal garage because he wanted some civic labourers for some work at his ward in Baina.
"When I enquired with them, they told me that they don't have any equipment and I was taken aback. I also found out that their payments were regularly delayed and they had no facilities.”
“I then went to a shop to buy them all required equipment like gloves, but the shop owner asked me whom I was buying it for. When I told him that it was for the municipal council, he offered to sponsor the items,” said Chopdekar.
