MARGAO
The South Goa Forest Division has seized wild animals and birds at an open air hall, Varca village.
Acting on a tip off on the illegal captivity and display of wild animals and birds in an open Air Hall at Palkutt Varca, a team comprising of Vishal V.Surve, SDFO Quepem, Prakash Naik, RFO Mobile Squad & Staff of Mobile squad Range Margao under guidance of Anil Shetgaonkar DCF South, executed an search operation in the premises of the open Air Hall at Palkutt Varca and managed to successfully recover wild animals and Birds.
The team seized live animals and birds, including White Bellied Sea Eagle (one), Malabar Gaint Squirrel (one), Black Kite (one), Plum Headed Parakeet (seven), Vernal Hanging Parrot (one), Black Headed Munia (12) and Rose Ringed Parakeet (six).
All the above species are protected under Schedule I, II and IV of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Staff of the Open Air Hall involved in handling, Shifting and Hiding aforementioned wildlife have been arrested and Produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class III Additional Court, Margao, where they were remanded to Judicial Custod till March 14.
Names of the staff include Nagraj Achari, Dinesh Kumar, Sameer Aaind, Soma Kandulna and Pyari Kerketta.
The seized Birds and Animals were later released in wild.
