Noted Goan musician Cruz Marcelino Coutinho, popularly known as Cruz de Sanvordem passed away on June 3. The musician who turned 70 last month on May 4, was admitted to a private hospital after mild Covid symptoms and was discharged later. He passed away after some days of being discharged.
Cruz was felicitated for his contribution to the tiatr and music on the occasion of 125th anniversary of tiatr celebration on May 27, 2017. Active in the cultural field for many decades, he regularly played live music at Martins Restaurant in Margao and Martins Corner, Betalbhatim on several occasions. He founded a dance band too. In the younger days, he wrote and directed short plays for inter-college competitions and bagged many prizes.
The Morailem Curchorem born Cruz stepped on the tiatr stage as a villain five decades ago, in 1971 with Jess Fernandes’s tiatr ‘Hanvunch Tho’.
