Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) calls for an extension of time for feedback from stakeholders on the proposed revision of existing taxi fare rates. GOACAN has called for the extension of time of 10 days for feedback from all stakeholders on the proposed revision of the existing taxi fare rates, especially, considering the prevalent Covid scenario in Goa.
In a letter to the director of Transport, Rajan Satardekar, GOACAN has stated the current time of six days provided for stakeholders like taxi operators and commuters to submit their suggestions and comments was too short.
The letter points out that a public notice was published on April 1, 2021, by the Director of Transport in his capacity as member secretary of the State Transport Authority (STA) with regards to the proposed revision of existing taxi fare rates which are effective from May 19, 2014.
Since it takes a lot of time to access the Official Gazette Series 1 No 42 dated 14/01/2021 on the website goatransport.gov.in as it is placed in the Notification section under 2021, the letter proposes that the same be placed in the ‘Latest News and Notices’ section of the website. Also, the details of the proposed revised taxi fare rates contained in the Official Gazette are only available in English and therefore makes it difficult for those who are used to reading matter in the vernacular languages. Therefore, this important content in this Gazette be translated in Konkani and Marathi by the Directorate of Official Language and the same be uploaded on the website of the Directorate of Transport, requests GOACAN coordinator Roland Martins.
