National Science Day held by Carmel College Zoology Dept

On the occasion of National Science Day, the Department of Zoology of Carmel College, Nuvem organized a talk and screened wildlife documentaries. The Natural History Museum was also open to visitors on the occasion.

Dr Manoj Borkar, head of the Zoology Department, delivered a popular talk on ‘How relevant is Biology in our lives’, where he touched upon applications of biology in our everyday lives, parallel between human and animal behavior and the synergy of biology, physics, chemistry and mathematics in trans-disciplinary studies. The talk was attended by students and faculty members.

Wildlife documentaries were screened on the theme, ‘Seeing the world upside down- fascinating life of bats’ and ‘Ballerinas of the sea- Marine mammals’. The screening concluded with interactive sessions conducted by senior Zoology students aimed at discussing current threats, issues. Students were also taken to see the exhibits in the Natural History Museum of the College. Principal Dr Sr Maria Lizanne, also a senior faculty of zoology, presided over the day’s celebration.
