The sudden spurt in gold thefts around the State and therecent murder of a jeweller has rung alarm bells among the common man and thepolice as well.
Sharp rise in gold prices and the boom in investments ingold have also given rise to number of gold robberies.
Gold robbers have managed to outsmart the cops by changingtheir modus operandi every now and then.
According to police sometimes the robbers act in a veryclandestine way completely baffling a shop or a house owner. “The robbers areso smart in diverting you attention, that you will come to know about the theftonly when they scoot away with the booty,” police sources said.
Sometimes the robbers survey a target area for more than aweek before carrying out their plan, a police official attached to the localintelligence wing informed.
Although police patrolling, beat policing and other vigilmeasures are taken by the police, the robbers are one step ahead. “Theyconstantly monitor our movements pick up a loophole and then strikes,” theofficial said.
In the recent murder case of a jeweller in Mapusa, thepolice are still to apprehend the accused in the crime.
Besides thefts of gold ornaments from flats, houses andjewellery shops, sometime couple of women has been victims of such thieves.
Quite a few times the thieves have posed as policemen andescaped with gold ornaments by duping their victims.
