Saligao VP sets up Diwali market for women SHGs

PORVORIM

Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar has said the State government may have formulated schemes for women Self Help Groups (SHG), but the benefits of these schemes do not reach them.

“There are several women SHGs in Goa preparing different types of eatables, pickles, papad, clothing etc., but there are no permanent facilities for them in villages or towns to sell their products.”

“The Saligao Panchayat with financial assistance from NABARD has assisted SHGs from Saligao to set up Diwali stalls to enable them sell their products. We appeal to villagers of Saligao and neighbouring villages to visit these stalls and buy products which are cheaper than the market,” said Salgaonkar.

He was speaking at Saligao after inaugurating the Diwali Festival Market in the panchayat, to enable SHGs sell their products.

Saligao Sarpanch Lafira Gomes said women SHGs from Saligao had approached her to provide them some facilities to sell their products.

“Space was provided in the premises of Saligao Panchayat and NABARD has borne the expenses to set up the stalls. The panchayat propose to organise such bazaars every Diwali, Ganesh and Christmas festivals in future,” said Gomes.
