A number of residents attended the 'Urban Organic Vegetable Gardening Training Programme' initiated by the Chicalim Panchayat Village Development Committee (VDC) at the Chicalim panchayat.
The training was conducted by the Zonal Agricultural Officer(ZAO), South Goa, and coordinated by Roland Martins from GOACAN.
Features of urban organic gardening were explained by Assistant Agricultural Officer (AAO) Jovita Sequeira while ZAO Sharif Furtado explained about the menace and management of pests. A live demonstration was given by AAO Mahesh Kankonkar on seeding and potting vegetables, while GOACAN displayed many vegetables grown in pots. Chicalim Sarpanch Sebastiao Pereira, panchas and residents from Chicalim, Alto-Dabolim, Airport Road, MES College, Vasco attended the programme.
Roland Martins from GOACAN appealed to the participants to undertake organic vegetables growing as a collective effort.
The sarpanch and panchayat secretary Kapil Naik received special praise from VDC member Dr Wanda Viegas Araujo for helping organise the training programme for the locals.
