West Bengal handicraft exhibition begins today

An exhibition featuring various forms of rural, traditional handicraft artists of West Bengal will begin at Sadhana Dell ‘Arte at Merces on December 24 and will be for public viewing till December 30 from 12 noon to 8 pm. These rural crafts are Sitalpati of Ghughumari, Coochbehar, Madur of Sabang, West Midnapore, Kantha of Nanoor, Birbhum and Patachitra of Pingla, West Midnapore.  

The traditional artists will be available to interact directly with the visitors. Paban Kuman Dey is Sitalpati, an artist from Ghughumari, Coochbehar makes floor mats, boxes, bags, coasters etc. Santana Bibi, a Kantha artist from Nanoor, Birbhum makes dress material, sarees, dupattas and bags. Haripada Das Adhikari, Madur artist from Sabang, West Midnapore makes home furnishing products like table mats, wall hangings, curtains, boxes and jewelleries. Rahim Chitrakar, Patachitra artist from Pingla, West Midnapore paints Kalighat Pat and Santhal Pat.
