VASCO
Former chairman of Mormugao Planning and Development Authority and former Mormugao councillor Krishna (Daji) Salkar has announced plans to contest the upcoming assembly elections from Vasco.
Speaking to reporters alongside an inspection of a drainage system in Vasco along with his wife and Councillor Shami Salkar and Councillor Girish Borker, Salkar said the BJP was his first choice and a natural ally, considering he had been a staunch BJP Karyakarta earlier.
"I contested the last assembly elections as an independent but lost by a few votes. But we never closed our office. I will take a call by end of August and after discussions with workers and supporters," said Salkar.“However, my top priority would be to contest on a BJP ticket from Vasco. We have been denied the BJP ticket on two occasions but now we feel that the BJP should give us the ticket,” he added. Salkar broke away from the BJP to contest the 2017 assembly elections as an independent candidate after he was sidelined and denied BJP ticket. Salkar was also made to step down as the MPDA chairman, creating a further rift with BJP.
