PANAJIThe valedictory function of the 71st Wildlife Week celebrations organised by Deputy Conservator Wildlife and Eco-Tourism, (North) was held at Institute Menezes Braganza recently. Chief Wildlife Warden Santosh Kumar, IFS, who was the Chief Guest for the function said that since wildlife can't speak to us, it's the duty of Forest authorities and common men to be the eyes, ears and voice of wildlife. He said we should treat the wildlife as our own kin since our survival is dependent on them. He further said that the purpose of celebrating wildlife week is to imbibe in the youth the spirit of wildlife conservation and sensitise them towards the environment. The 71st wildlife week celebration was organised by Wildlife and Eco Tourism (North) Division of Goa Forest Department from October 2-8 in all protected areas of Goa. The theme for this year's celebrations was "Recovering key species for ecosystem restoration." The wildlife division organised various competitions for schools and colleges in Goa. Prize winners were awarded trophies and certificates.
