MARGAO: Chandor SC were lucky to win by a lone goal in the first half to beat CAC Cansaulim to move into the quarterfinals of the II Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup, organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, at the Fr. Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim, on Friday.
Both the teams were well matched in attack as well as in defence. In the 15th minute, Sevaraj of Chandor SC dribbled past Samuel Barreto and Elvino Fernandes and tapped the ball to Alrich Peixoto, who was dispossessed in the nick of time by Reagan Soares of Cansaulim.
Cansaulim also had the share of opportunities with Asher Correia and Jovito DeSouza crossing the ball into the Chandor area but the tall Chandor defenders, led by Viton Fernandes did not give any room to score. However, Chandor got a 30-yard free-kick which was taken by Fayden Pereira who gave a cross in the Cansaulim half which got lobbed in the goal area and entered the nylons for a soft goal for Chandor as CAC keeper Gavriel Barreto failed to judge the flight of the ball which turned out to be the match-winner for Chandor SC.
