CMC budget to be discussed on Apr 15

The budget which was submitted by then administrator of Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) for 2021-22 will come up at the council's first business meeting scheduled on April 15.

It may be recalled that on completion of the CMC's tenure, the State government had appointed an administrator for the council.

Then CMC administrator Johnson Fernandes had presented the budget for 2021-22, projecting an income of Rs 11,94,96,000 and expenditure of Rs 15,15,25,000.

Fernandes has projected income in the form of municipal taxes (Rs 75 lakh), revenue derived from municipal property (Rs 2.49 crore), government grants and contributions (Rs 5.69 crore), miscellaneous receipts (Rs 2.27 crore), receipts such as GST collection, vGPF/NPS/CPF contribution and security, EMD and other deposits from contractors (Rs 75 lakh).

Interestingly, Rs 5,000 has also been budgeted as fees from impounded cattle as realisation under a special act.

The expenditure projected includes payments, allowances, salary and wages under general administration (Rs 4.9 crore), public safety expenses (Rs 17.5 lakh), public health and conveyance like maintenance, repairs, diesel, petrol (Rs 5.14 crore), public instruction (Rs 3.95 crore), miscellaneous (Rs 19.05 lakh) and Return of Security Deposits and Payments of GST (Rs 79 lakh).

Speaking informally after the council's meeting to appoint the Standing Committee and other committees on Wednesday, CMC Municipal Engineer Vinod Kudtarkar said a Rs 2.5 crore provision has been made for development works, assuring a minimum of Rs 20 lakh to each of the 12 wards.

CMC Chairperson Simon Rebello said the council would deliberate on the CMC budget which has been presented by the administrator in the forthcoming council meeting scheduled on April 15.
