Porvorim Police have busted a cricket betting racket at Defence Colony and arrested eight persons, while also seizing 40 mobiles, 3 laptops, other equipment and record books, all worth about Rs 10 lakh.Porvorim PSI Sitaram Malik said the police had received information that a cricket betting racket was in operation at a house in Defence Colony.Under the guidance of DySP V Karpe, a police team led by Police Inspector Anant Gaonkar and PSI Sitaram Malik raided the house on Friday evening while betting activities were in progress and arrested eight persons, who are from UP and New Delhi. Police said the accused had taken a house in Defence Colony on rent and were collecting bets from punters in connection with the third cricket test match between India and South Africa. Investigations are in progress and the eight accused will be produced before the Judicial Magistrate First class, said PSI Malik.
