A team from the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) along with the Goa Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) carried out a dengue awareness programme for municipal councillors, panch members and some company representatives in Mormugao taluka. Dr Kalpana Mahatme mentioned that elected representatives must identify vulnerable areas ideal for mosquitoes breeding and to clean the area.Goa Shipyard Limited and Gammon India Pvt Ltd personnel present at the meeting were also requested to check and clean their construction sites which could become potential mosquitoes breeding ground. Authorities were also advised and suggested to have regular medical checkups of manual workers at the construction sites. Councillors also stated that there is need to have fogging machines and adequate fumigant chemicals for fumigation. Mormugao Dy Collector Dattaraj Gauns Dessai was also present at the awareness meeting.
