Loyola High School, Margao celebrated the birth anniversary of late Konkani writer Fr Antonio Luis Pereira recently in order to remember the literary contribution of this stalwart of Konkani literature. Vincy Quadros, noted writer and president of Dalgado Konkani Akademi graced this programme as the Chief Guest. In his address, he reminisced his earlier association with Fr Antonio Pereira. He encouraged the students to enhance their creative skills and get their writings published. He also advised students to speak and write in Konkani without any inferiority complex. In the beginning, Shubhangi Desai welcomed the audience and highlighted the objective behind organising such programmes. The devotional hymn, ‘Deva Mhojea Deva’ was sung by the choir trained by Roque D’Costa. The choir comprised of Antonio Colaco, Shannon Fernandes, Joshua Da Costa, Ajaindra Pereira, Sherwin Pereira. Shane Silva and Neil Saldanha provided musical accompaniment on the keyboard and guitar respectively. During the programme, a brief quiz on the life and works of Fr Antonio Pereira was conducted by Elliton Fernandes. The quiz winners, namely, Shane Quadros, Rikkie Joe Pereira, Dyron Fernandes, Rio Dias and Conrad Nogueiro were given prizes at the hands of the chief guest. Towards the end, Valen Antao enthralled the audience through the soulful rendition of the Konkani song ‘Familicho Ekvott’ composed by Alfred Rose. Around 180 students from Std VIII and IX attended this programme.
