Ghumot workshop at Pilerne today

Ghumot workshop at Pilerne today

PORVORIM : The Pilerne Thursday Heritage Market by Pilerne Art Socio Cultural Association (PASCA) will organise a Ghumot Workshop by Milton Angel Fernandes.

Agnelo plays Ghumots for Mando, Arti and Shigmo. He resides in Calangute and has been playing the Ghumot since he was 10 years old.

The State government has declared Ghumot as the state musical instrument. PASCA’s initiative to organise such workshops for people is to create the sense of tradition to maintain the culture among young minds.

There will also be an individual performance by Roque Pereira and group performance by Navetim, Manxer ani Maina Somudais. Snacks, handcraft artifacts and Goan delicacies will be sold at the market by local vendors and all the items sold are homemade.

Pilerne Heritage Thursday market strives to be a zero waste and inclusive market. Those interested are invited to join in with their Ghumots at St John Baptist Church courtyard, Pilerne, on February 9 from 5 pm to 9 pm.

“Let this be a beginning of reviving the old culture and tradition. It’s also a great platform for the locals to showcase different talents, may it be singing, dancing, acting, cooking, compering and lots more,” said Pilerne Parish Priest Fr Derick Fernandes.
