PORVORIM
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has demanded immediate withdrawal of ordinance that has stopped the scheme of granting House Building Advance (HBA) to government employees and banning them from protesting or approaching the court of law against the decision.
In a press conference held at Porvorim on Saturday, Khaunte stated that this ordinance is Autocratic and hence need to reviewed as it has tumbled the budget calculations of the government employees who are COVID warriors.
"Due to this ordinance, the monthly instalment of an employee whose Equated Monthly instalment (EMI) was Rs 19,000 has increased to whooping Rs 32,000 a straight increase of Rs 13,000 per month. This has thrown his home budget out of gear. Government employees, who had bought a flat or a house and had availed of the HBA scheme at a low rate of interest had adjusted their monthly incomes to match the loan requirements...The government has done injustice to around 60,000 government employees," said Khaunte.
Khaunte further mentioned that the government could have stopped the granting of loan facility henceforth through this ordinance for government employees but should not have made this applicable for the government employees who had already availed of the HBA and are paying instalments to the banks.
