Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Judge Sarika Faldessai has underscored the need to create an awareness on the rights of persons with disabilities. Addressing the audience as chief guest at the valedictory function of the national seminar on Empowering the Persons with Disabilities and Ensuring Inclusiveness and Equality organized by GR Kare College of Law, Margao, in association with the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities and Junior Chamber International (JCI Vasco), Judge Sarika said the GR Kare College of Law needs to be applauded for taking the initiative of creating awareness on the rights of persons with disabilities. She said that a mentally ill and otherwise disabled person is entitled for free legal services under section 12 of legal services authorities act and for this purpose, legal services institution have been set up from Taluka courts to Supreme Court. The two day national seminar was conducted at GR Kare College of Law, Margao, and resource persons from all over India participated for the event. The seminar dealt with various rights of the disabled persons and discussed the disability movements in India with focus on the well being of persons with disabilities. Others present on the dais were Adv Pritam Morais, First Vice President of Vidya Vikas Mandal, Dr Maria Goretti Simoes e Morais, Officiating Principal of the Law College, Adv Aniket Naik, President JCI, Vasco, and Sapresh Devidas, Project Coordinator and Asst Professor.
