Eight councillors have issued a no-confidence motion against Bicholim Municipal Council (BMC) Vice-Chairperson Tanuja Gaonkar. Those who have signed the petition include Mayor Kundan Falari, Sudan Govekar, Vijaykumar Natekar, Nilesh Tople, Aniket Chanekar, Deepa Pal, Sukhda Teli and Ranjana Waingkar. Earlier, Gaonkar had announced her resignation but withdrew it immediately, prompting eight councillors to file a no-confidence motion against her. At present, the BJP panel is in power and this resolution has been filed against the deputy mayor of this group after two opposition councillors have supported the six members of the BJP group. Meanwhile, Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye has made it clear that he has no involvement in these developments at the BMC.
