NRI offers Rs 40L for publishing Konkani books

In order to financially support writers and publishers of Konkani books, an NRI Michael D’Souza has offered Rs 40 lakh to publish 100 books in Konkani in the next five years. The amount has been donated to Mangalore's Vishwa Konkani Kendra by the Dubai resident of Indian origin. Under the ‘Vision Konkani’ scheme, a memorandum had been signed between the NRI and Vishwa Konkani Kendra mentioning the arrangement of Rs 40 lakh for the purpose. D’Souza had expressed his wish recently during an inauguration of Basti Vaman Shenoy statue organised by Vishwa Konkani Kendra in the presence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. Stating that he is humbled to see the literary heritage left behind by Basti Vamanbab in Konkani, D’Souza appealed that seeing the Vishwa Konkani Kendra’s work, and every Konkani person should step forward to support their mission. To enrich our language we must do something and to contribute my share I am supporting the mission of publishing Konkani Books, said D’Souza. The scheme has no bar of region or script. It aims at motivating quality literature in Konkani.
