PORVORIM
Former sarpanch of Penha de Franca and social worker Bhiku Sawant passed away due to Covid-related complications at the Goa Medical College Hospital on Monday evening. He was 72. Bhikubab, as he was fondly called, had tested positive and was admitted to GMC hospital on May 2 for treatment, where he breathed his last.
He had served as sarpanch of Penha de Franca panchayat for 13 years and had taken active part in social activities. He was also president of Pundalik Devastan and a former director of Goa Housing Board.
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has expressed grief over the demise of Sawant due to Covid-related complications.
“Bhikubab was a true social worker and worked relentlessly for the development of Penha de Franca. With his demise, we have lost a great social worker,” said Khaunte.
