PANAJIOn the occasion of World Environment Day, Karo Sambhav in collaboration with YIMBY organised a public walk through Mapusa Municipal Council’s (MMC) material recovery facility and bio-methane plant at Cuchelim with 30 participants including MMC chairperson Shubhangi Vaigankar. Karo Sambhav founder Sushant Figueiredo briefed the visitors about the functioning of MRF including collection of waste from the city, segregation process and disposal methods of recyclables. The importance of segregation was explained to visitors by demonstrating how the waste is dealt with even manually in order to ensure that there is absolutely no mixing of the different kinds of waste. ''This event was conducted in order to make people aware about what happens to their garbage after it is disposed of. The walk was a learning experience to the people as they got a chance to see how the segregated waste of each kind is treated differently,'' says Gaurav Pokle, MD of YIMBY.
