PORVORIM: Rajesh Savoikar has been elected unopposed as Deputy Sarpanch of Salvador do Mundo.
The post had fallen vacant after former dy sarpanch Namrata Chodankar had submitted her resignation citing personal reasons.
The Mapusa Block Development Officer had convened a special meeting in the panchayat office on Thursday to elect a new deputy sarpanch.
Five panchayat members, Sarpanch Bindiya Naik, Roshni Savoikar, Namrata Chodankar, Rajesh Savoikar and Krishnakan Chodankar were present at the meeting, while four panch members Sandeep Salgaonkar, Reena Fernandes, Vijay Dalvi and Dattaram Redkar were absent.
Since Rajesh Savoikar was the lone applicant to the post, he was declared elected unopposed at deputy sarpanch.
The Mapusa Block Development Office Extension Officer Khushali Halarnkar conducted the election proceedings and Panchayat secretary Dhanesh Khorjuvekar assisted him.
