A 50-year old man from Santa Cruz drowned in a rivulet near Four Pillars, Santa Cruz, when he had gone fishing on Monday evening.The body of Leandro Fernandes was retrieved only on Tuesday afternoon after an extensive search launched by locals.St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes, his wife and deputy sarpanch of Santa Cruz Indira Fernandes and former MLA Victor Gonsalves were among those present at the site when the body was retrieved.
Speaking to the media, Gonsalves informed that Leandro Fernandes along with one more person had gone for fishing on Monday evening in the rivulet. “However, both of them went in different directions to cast their nets. The other person returned home but Fernandes did not and the concerned relatives along with the locals then launched a search on Monday itself. However, the body was retrieved on Tuesday afternoon,” Gonsalves informed. The body was later taken to the GMC where the post-mortem was conducted and it will be handed over to the relatives for final rites on Wednesday.The Old Goa police have registered a case of unnatural death and PSI Viraj Dhawaskar is investigating.
