PANAJIThe parish of Saint Rita de Casscia will celebrate San Joao-Copelam with a lot of traditional festivities, for the first time after the pandemic on June 26 in the church premises from 3pm to 6pm. The programme, called Copelam, celebrates the tradition of wearing festive floral wreaths to commemorate the feast of Saint John the Baptist. There will be a host of competitions (inter-ward) ranging from copelam (wreaths), Goa's traditional dances, cantaram, fancy-dress, and the playing of the ghumott. There will also be traditional goodies and fruit platters of organic home grown fruits to celebrate the festivities of San Joao. The event is conceptualised by parish priest of Saint Rita de Casscia Church, Fr Roman Rodrigues. All are invited to participate in the celebrations.
