Released recently amidst the corona pandemic, Rajiv Shinkre’s book, ‘Yaad na jaye, beete geeton ki’ seems more like a bouquet of songs that not only compiles 106 old, memorable Hindi numbers, but also has an added feature “ a complete backdrop of the song, the film from which it is picked up, the compositors, musicians and singers. Penned by Rajiv, a practicing lawyer and a notary public by profession, the book was the culmination of his passion for music that compelled him to compile unforgettable melodies from the bygone era and present it to the nostalgic music lovers amidst the pandemic. Despite the low profile release event, the book got a wild response, especially from those in their fifties and sixties.
“These immortal songs were sung by real gems “ Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosale, Mohamad Rafi, Kishor Kumar, Talat Mehmood, Hemant Kumar, Shamshad Begum, Geeta Dutt etc. The music directors like S D Burman, Shankar-Jaikishan, Madan Mohan, R D Burman, Kalyanji-Anandji, C Ramachandra, Hemant Kumar, Salil Choudhury have put their soul into the melodies,” shares the author. Rajiv has dedicated his book in the memory of late Anil Pai Kane who was popularly known as the ‘Encyclopaedia of Hindi films from golden era. Commemorating the 75th birthday of Kane, the book release witnessed a musical evening at the International Centre Goa, with a live orchestra by Vishnu Shirodkar in the presence of Kane’s daughter, Devyani Chinmay Borkar, event organizer Atul Mishra, filmmaker Rajendra Talak and others.
