Traditional Carnival celebrations at Big Foot

PANAJI

Keeping the spirit of "Intruz" alive at Ancestral Goa, the Big Foot village in Loutolim was animated with the merriment of Carnaval throughout the weekend, revellers dressed as "Moné" or "Potekar" pranced and danced around the premises, wearing hand painted masks and colourful homemade costumes, armed with a bucket and broom. They swept the entrances of houses symbolising sweeping away evil. Visitors to Ancestral Goa were invited to participate in the activity and found plenty of photo opportunities. The Potekar were accompanied by a "Rang-Tarang" band that created a lively ruckus that added to the festivities.
