Veteran environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar recently made a presentation on how Goans can prevent heat waves by maintaining good tree cover and maintenance of springs in their localitiues as trees are natural suppliers of oxygen. “We are duty bound to engage elected representatives, secretaries of panchayats, councillors of Municipality in the jurisdiction of CHC Bicholim in preventive measures to ensure preparedness and mitigation measures to tackle the issue of climatic change and heat wave 2022 forecasted by IMD,” Kerkar stated. In view of this, CHC Bicholim in association with IMA Bicholim and Lions Club of Bicholim conducted a seminar on the same issue. The purpose of the seminar was to outline the arrangements for the management of heat waves which was highlighted by a power point presentation by Dr Medha Salkar. On the dais were block development officer Shrikant Pednekar and Dr Shekhar Salkar. The councillors of Bicholim Municipality Vijay Natekar, Sudan Govekar, Tople and Deepa Pal, panchayat secretary of Maulinguem, Van, Curchirem, Latambarcem, Mencurenem, Adwalpal, Sal, Mulgaon Sarvan and sarpanch Sheetal of Maulingue panchayat also attended. Self-help group of women led by Aruna Wadkar attended the seminar along with 65 participants.
