An unknown person reportedly committed suicide by jumping off from the Siolim-Chopdem bridge on Monday evening but the body was not found despite search operations carried out by the authorities. The incident happened at around 6 in the evening. Locals who saw the youth taking a plunge into the river from the bridge informed the police and the Mapusa fire station. Fire personnel and coastal police rushed to the spot but could not locate the youth or his body till late in the evening. The search operation was suspended later in the evening and will be resumed on Tuesday, a fire officer attached to the Mapusa fire station said.
