PANAJI: The National Consultative Workshop on the ‘Status of Devolution to Panchayats’ is set to kick off in Goa, inaugurated by Shri Vivek Bharadwaj, the Secretary of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. Organized by the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR), the two-day workshop will unfold on January 24th-25th, 2024.
The focal point of discussions will be the draft report on the study titled ‘Status of Devolution to Panchayats,’ conducted by IIPA at the behest of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
Distinguished attendees include senior officers from Panchayati Raj Departments of State and UT Governments, along with officials from the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, NITI Aayog, RBI, Comptroller and Auditor General of India, and senior research faculty and officers of IIPA. The workshop aims to extensively deliberate on the IIPA’s draft report, incorporating valuable comments and suggestions from participants. The outcome will be the production of a final report evaluating the comparative status of devolution of powers to Panchayats across different states, enabling rankings among the states based on this criterion.
