‘Maka Naka Plastic’ to distribute cloth bags

PANAJIThe plastic menace in our state is an alarming concern. But some good samaritans are going above and beyond to contribute in making Goa a greener space. 'Maka Naka Plastic' is one such initiative aiming to make Goa plastic free. They recycle waste fabric/cloth and create multipurpose bags out of it, keeping it away from landfills and at the same time create incomes for women from poorer backgrounds who passionately stitch these bags. In this mission, a 21 day campaign at the Panaji municipal market is launched to raise awareness amongst the shopkeepers, citizens and everyone else about the bitter truth of plastics. It will run for 21 days, as psychologically, it takes 21 to build a long lasting habit. 6000 bags will be distributed and citizens will be reminded to carry their own bags always for even the simplest of shopping. The group has appealed to the public to volunteer for this project that will be on till June 26 from 9-11am or 5-7pm and volunteers are free to choose any date(s) and time slots. For registering their names volunteers can call on 7977165012.
