The Goa Barge Owners Association (GBOA) President William DCosta on Monday said the executive committee would run the association as permitted by the court and warned of action against any person trying to misinterpret the court orders or conveying a wrong impression to the public.

Acknowledging the effort of Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida in seeking unity among members of GBOA, D’Costa addressed a news conference to convey the outcome of the court proceedings initiated by Capt. Estibeiro, Raymond D’Sa and two others.

“Our Adv. D Vernekar informed the principal district and sessions judge that the executive committee would not take any policy decision till disposal of the present application.”

“The executive committee will continue to conduct the business of running the GBOA as permitted by the court. No relief was granted to the applicants who moved the court. I clarify that the executive committee, in any case, only carries out administrative functions and policy decisions are taken by the General Body of GBOA,” said D’Costa.

He informed that the executive committee would continue to seek a resolution to the main problems faced by members affiliated to the barge owners like commencement of mining/iron ore exports, problems faced by barge loanees, especially those having loans from Cooperative Banks, and the barge tax

issue.

“Any person trying to misinterpret the court order or conveying wrong impression to members or the public will be guilty of providing false information under the pretext of court order and violating the constitution of GBOA,” said D’Costa.
