Stating that the present belongs to the youth, Governor Mridula Sinha on Thursday said governments around the world should focus on development of the youth.

“Every country has its past, present and future, but the present is more important. And the present is the youth. Youth is the present of any country. Wherever there are governments, they should focus on development of the youth,” Sinha said.

The governor was speaking after inaugurating the annual international Rotaract convention “ Rotasia Goa 2019 at the Peddem sports complex, Mapusa.

More than 1,700 youth from different parts of the country and abroad -- Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Australia and Sweden -- were taking part in the three-day convention.

Continuing, the governor said India always believes wherever there is humanity there should be peace and harmony.

“The whole world is one family and everyone should live as one family. Due to the electronic age, we are come so close to each other that the world has become a small place now,” she said.

Welcoming the youth to Goa, Sinha said tourists come to Goa because of its social harmony.

“The people who come from other states and countries can feel the social harmony of Goa. Goa has unique culture. All the people in Goa live together in perfect harmony without considering the caste or religion of the person,” she said.

“Everyone says that Goa has very good social harmony and it’s so peaceful in Goa,” she added.

Trying to strike a chord among the youth in the gathering, the governor said that she was also youth at heart and mind.

“Don’t look at my grey hair. I have dyed my hair white. I am not that old,” she said.

Organised by the Rotaract International District 3170, the convention aims to bring together Rotractors, Rotarians and Rotaract Clubs from across South East Asian countries.

The highlight of the convention will be an attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records where at least 1,200 delegates will be attempting a ‘human representation through a message’.

Eminent speakers including Ujjwal Nikam, Dr Prakash and Mandakini Amte, Pravin Nikam, Bhagyashree Sawant and Adv Bhai Usgaonkar are expected to address the convention.
