But before that I got a message from home that the notice was affixed on my house,” Govekar said. rIt may be recalled that on Thursday, the panchayat secretary had tried to contact the panch member on phone and even visited both his residences but could not find him at home. He then affixed the sarpanch election notice on both his residences. rDefending himself, Govekar said he did receive a call from the panchayat staff at around 1 pm and he had then informed him he would come to pick up the notice in the office. r“Early morning I had to rush to the airport to pick up a friend. I was then attending a legal matter in Mapusa court,” Govekar said and gave references of a couple of lawyer friends who were with him. rHe said there were attempts to tarnish his name but he was unconcerned as he had done nothing wrong.
‘I’m being dragged into controversy’
Trying to wriggle out from the Anjuna Panchayat’s sarpanch election controversy, panch Surendra Govekar on Friday said he was very much present in the village on Thursday and alleged that his opponents were unnecessarily trying to drag his name in a non-existent controversy.
