South Goa MP Adv. Narendra Sawaikar on Tuesday said the State and Central governments have been studying all legal aspects for the resumption of mining activities in Goa.
Sawaikar visited mining dependents staging a dharna at Dharbandora and assured them of all help to restart mining activity.
President of Dharbandora Taluka Truck Owners Association Vinayak alias Balaji Gawas was present on the occasion.
The mining dependents, who are staging a dharna under the banner of Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF), had recently criticised the State government for not acting enough to resume mining.
“The State and Central governments are studying all legal aspects to restart mining, as the leases were cancelled by Supreme Court and not by any lower court. We have to systematically address this issue. All of us, including lawyers of mining companies, are working together for a solution,” Sawaikar said.
“Many have suggested an ordinance as the only solution. But if it is promulgated, then other parties should also support to make it act.” He said.
He also said that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had recently convened a meeting with MLAs from mining belts and will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this issue.
