A group of citizens from Ambaulim village has dared the Quepem Municipal Council Chairperson and councillors to produce government notification stating that the housing project proposed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) in Quepem has been scrapped.
The group led by Adv John Fernandes has further stated that Deputy Chief Minister and Quepem MLA Chandrakant Kavlekar should make a statement to that effect that the housing project stands scrapped.
Addressing the media, John termed as farce the statement made by QMC Chairperson Dayesh Naik and some of the councillors stating that the housing project proposed in the Quepem municipal area has been scrapped, saying the statement is not supported by any government notification and neither has the government issued any notification scrapping the project from Quepem.
He pointed out that the central government has proposed the project under the PM’s scheme in Quepem, wherein 92 buildings consisting of 16 flats (G+3), one building (G+2), 12 flats and 372 individual cottages of LIG, total 1857 number were proposed over an area spread across 2,95,011 sq mtrs, meant to benefit around 7000-8000 population from all over India.
“The way the project was proposed in the area, it was meant for the benefit of a Delhi-based private company, which owns the land. The project will be a win, win situation for the company and some vested interests.” He demanded to know why the Council have prepared a list of beneficiaries from Quepem Municipal area if the project has been scrapped. “The statement made by the chairperson and councillors is just to pacify the people and to divert the attention of the people,”
he added.
Meanwhile, John and the citizens have claimed that work on the development of the playground at Copelabhat, Deao-Quepem have come to a stop after the contractor abandoned work on the project.
