The Margao police have finally succeeded in nabbing the accused involved in a rape cum extortion case after being on the run for almost six months after he surrendered at the police station.
The police was quick to arrest Mohammed Ishaq alias Azaan Hingora (22), resident of Charminar, Hyderabad. His brother Jabbar Ahmed was earlier arrested by the Margao police, who was accused by the minor victim girl for having come to her flat and taken the box containing gold from her. Both the accused have been remanded to police custody by the Goa Children’s Court.
District Police chief, SP Arvind Gawas informed that the police started investigations into the case after the mother of the victim girl reported at the Margao police station that between May 2017 till January 5, 2019 on various occasions and at various places, the accused, namely Azaan Hingora, a native of Hyderabad-Telangana, presently residing at Navelim, used to follow her minor daughter to befriend her while she was going for tuition classes. The complainant stated that the accused would stalk her minor daughter and on various occasions, kidnapped her from lawful guardianship and sexually abused her while she was going for tuition classes.
The mother further reported that the accused had clicked her nude photographs and instilled fear in her, by threatening to make the photos public. “By instilling fear, the accused had dishonestly induced the minor girl to deliver him her mother’s gold ornaments worth around Rs 27 lakh, thereby committing extortion,” SP Gawas said.
The police had invoked the offence of rape after medical examination of the girl confirmed that the minor girl was sexually assaulted. The girl informed that the accused had taken her to a hotel in Colva and also to his room in Cuncolim, to sexually assault her on several occasions.
SP Gawas informed that during the process of investigations, the victim girl named the accused Mohammed Isaaq alias Azaan Hingora for sexual assault before a Special Judicial Magistrate and also named the elder brother of the accused, namely Jabbar Ahmed for having come to her flat to take the box containing gold from her.
He said while PSI Sujay Korgaonkar and his team had succeeded in nabbing Jabbar Ahmad on August 28, the main accused had no option, but to surrender.
Margao PI Tushar Lotlikar assisted by PSI Laureen Sequeira, PSI Sagar Dhatkar, PSI Sujay Korgaonkar, head constable Shamir Nagnuri and Gorkanath Gawas and police constable Vijaykumar Kamathan were instrumental in arresting the two accused.
While appreciating the efforts of the SP, South and his team, Inspector General of Police, Jaspal Singh has declared that the team would be suitably rewarded for their painstaking efforts to take the case to its logical end.
