Police arrested a five-member ‘supari killer’ gang in Arpora, after they had fled to Goa following the alleged murder of a person in Satara-Maharashtra.
The accused arrested are Suraj Dnyaneshwar Kadam (26) of Khed-Satara, Abhishek Vilas Chatur (27) of Nandgiri-Satara, Shubham Hindurag Chatur (27) of Chikli-Pune, Raju Bhimrao Pawar (26) of Pantagighat-Satara and Sachin Ramesh Chavan (29) of Gotwade-Pune.
On January 24, the gang is alleged to have killed Amit Abasaheb Bhosle of Shukrawarpeth-Satara at a hotel along the Purna-Kolhapur highway in Vaghe Fata-Satara.
The hotel owner lodged a complaint with the Satara police stating that the deceased had come to the hotel on January 23 past midnight in a car along with a woman.
He had ordered food and was eating in the car, when two suspects with black jackets and monkey caps entered the hotel and sat there drinking tea. When the deceased went in the hotel to return the plates and wash his hands, a gunshot was heard.
One of the two men wearing a jacket had a pistol in his hand. The hotelier and an employee rushed to the spot when one of the suspects pointed a pistol at him. The hotel owner cut off power in the hotel. The suspects then fled from the site.
After the suspects fled, the hotel owner reported the matter to the police. Meanwhile, the woman in the car came in search of her colleague and when the injured was found in a pool of blood, he was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead.
The Satara police registered a case of murder under Sections 302, 506 (2), 34 of IPC and Section 25 of the Gun Act against the unknown persons.
During investigation, the Satara police was informed that this killing was a result of ‘supari’.
The North Goa Police then received the information from the Satara Police on Friday afternoon that the accused were hiding in a hotel at Arpora.
Acting swiftly, a Crime Branch team which was in Anjuna at the time, nabbed the culprits with the help of Anjuna police and arrested the suspects. They were pretending to be tourists in this hotel. An SUV was also seized by the police.
The North Goa Police intimated the Satara Police about the arrest and the suspects will be handed over to the Satara police on Saturday.
