Stating that influential persons easily obtained construction licences but locals were made to dance from pillar to post to get one, former sarpanch of Calangute, Joseph Sequeira said that a huge ground plus six structure was coming up in the CRZ area in Baga, Calangute.
“A ground plus six structure is coming up in Baga opposite to the Nazri resort in the CRZ area. It happens to belong to an influential MLA,” Sequeira alleged.
“How is the MLA getting the licence and our people of Calangute are denied the same? This is one of the reasons why our people build illegal houses. The CRZ authorities are not helping our locals but bend rules for the influential and powerful,” he added.
He said local MLA Michael Lobo had promised to regularize all houses in Calangute once the village was brought under the PDA but so far no houses were regularized.
