CANACONA
Deputy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes said a 10-bedded Covid care centre has already become operational in Canacona and assured to make more arrangements as and when needed.
He also appealed to Covid-infected patients not to roam outside as they could spread the infection to others.
Stating that arrangements have been made for doctors, nurses, technicians and helpers even before making the Canacona Covid centre operational, Fernandes advised patients in the taluka to utilise these facilities.
“In Canacona, a lot of patients detected with Covid are put to hardships and are compelled to travel over 45 kms to Margao. Besides, some positive patients in home isolations do not obey the quarantine procedures, thereby putting themselves and others at a health risk.”
“We request such Covid patients to take advantage of this Covid care centre in Canacona itself and if needed, we will add more beds. A positive patient can take admission, recover and get discharged, but if the health deteriorates, the patient will be shifted to a specialised hospital,” Fernandes added.
Meanwhile, former minister Ramesh Tawadkar has submitted a memorandum to the Canacona Deputy Collector demanding the expansion of the Canacona Covid centre and has suggested utilisation of the Sanskruti Bhavans constructed under tribal funds at Amone-Poinguinim and Gaondongrim for this purpose.
Tawadkar has also announced the opening of a Help Desk for the benefit of Covid person and their families.
Social Worker Samrat Bhagat has written to the Canacona Municipal Council to suspend the Weekly Saturday Bazaar till Covid cases subside in the taluka.
He also requested the CMC to sanitise all 12 municipal wards, which have witnessed a rise in Covid cases.
Incidentally, the four-day complete lockdown on an appeal by Canacona Nagrik Samiti (CNS) in the commercial hub of Chaudi ended on Thursday. While restrictions placed by the government are to continue till Monday morning, grocery stores and some other establishments permitted under government directives will function from Friday.
