Covid takes 58 more lives, 3,869 infections reported

As India is facing the second wave in the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the State administrations are battling with the surging numbers of positive cases and rising death tolls. Goa recorded 3,869 new Covid cases (51.46 % of 7518 samples tested) on Thursday. 

The positivity rate is above 51% for the second consecutive day. The first time that the positivity figure had crossed the 50% mark was on April 28, when it was recorded at 51.08%. With 3,869 new cases, 58 deaths and 2,023 recoveries the active Covid count of Goa is approaching the 30,000-mark and now stands at 29,752. 

The recovery rate has further dropped down to 71.03 %. The highest number of active cases, 2,253 were recorded at Margao UHC while Panaji recorded 1,976 active Covid cases. A total of 192 people were discharged from government hospitals on May 6.

The breakup of 29,752 active positive cases as per Goa’s Health department figures stands, in North Goa at the Community Health Centres in Bicholim it is 1,057, at Sankhali 1,336, at Pernem 968, at Valpoi 658, and at the Urban Health Centre in Mapusa it is 1,622, Panaji it is 1,976 while at the Primary Health Centre in Aldona the number is 678, at Betaki 594, at Candolim 1,587, at Cansarvanem 239, at Colvale 642, at Corlim 721, at Chimbel 1,007, at Siolim 1,126, at Porvorim 1,458 and at Mayem it is 338.

In South Goa, at the Community Health Centre in Curchorem, the figure is 747, at Canacona 572, and at the Urban Health Centre in Margao, it is 2,253, at Vasco 861 and at the Primary Health Center in Balli it is 607, at Cansaulim 1083, at Chinchinim 389, at Cortalim 1,309, at Curtorim 552, at Loutolim 652, at Marcaim 554, at Quepem 381, at Sanguem 464, at Shiroda 604, at Dharbandora 676, at Ponda 1516 and at Navelim it is 508.

Colvale jail guard dies of Covid

MAPUSAA jail guard at the Colvale Central Jail died of Covid on Thursday while three more workers and 10 prisoners also tested positive for the disease.According to reports, the deceased was from Vasco and had not reported to work since the last 20 days due to illness.
