A jail guard at the Colvale Central Jail died of Covid on Thursday while three more workers and 10 prisoners also tested positive for the disease.
According to reports, the deceased was from Vasco and had not reported to work since the last 20 days due to illness. He was later admitted to a hospital, where he breathed his last.
Jail Superintendent Srinet Kothwale confirmed that the jail guard had died due to Covid.
Meanwhile, the three workers who tested positive have been isolated at home, while 10 prisoners have been shifted to a special ward.
