Ajgaonkar: Told Davorlim VP to take decision on 166 houses

MARGAO

Refuting charges that he is pressurizing the Davorlim panchayat to issue house numbers  to the 166 illegal houses, senior BJP leader and ex-Dy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar on Thursday said he has only asked the Davorlim panchayat to issue house numbers to the 166 houses in the village since the Panchayat has not taken any decision on the applications.

In the meantime, the Davorlim Panchayat has fixed an inspection of the 166 ihouses at Davorlim on January 12 following a complaint that the houses are all illegal.

“Where is the question of pressurizing the Davorlim Panchayat to issue the house numbers?, he questioned, pointing out that he has only insisted on the Panchayat to issue the house numbers to the 166 houses as per the amendment brought by the BJP-ruled government.

Charging the Davorlim Panchayat for not acting on the applications made by the owners of the 166 houses seeking house numbers, Ajgaonkar said the Panchayat and the Sarpanch should answer why the panchayat has till date not taken any decision on the applicants.

“If the Panchayat feels the houses are illegal and hence cannot be issued numbers, let the Panchayat say so. We are all ready to take the matter to the Additional Director of Panchayats for justice”, he said.

He added: “In the instant case, the Panchayat has neither accepted the applicants and issued the house number, not have the Panchayat rejected the applications”.

Saying there is no question of pressurizing anyone to take any decision, Ajgaonkar said he has only requested the panchayat to take a call on the applications as per the amendment brought about by the government.

Meanwhile, Davorlim sarpanch Herculan Niasso informed that the Panchayat has fixed an inspection of the houses on January 12 following a complaint the structures are all illegal.

He further said the Panchayat has received the applications for the issue of house numbers to the 166 houses only in the last two months, adding that the panchayat cannot take a call on the matter for want of proper documents.
