Having received several complaints over the indiscriminate road digging in the village for underground power cabling, Santa Cruz panchayat authorities pulled up the contractor and warned that they would be forced to stop the work if the dug portions of the roads are not levelled in two days.
The panchayat authorities made their presence felt near the Santa Cruz church where the road digging was undertaken and issued a warning to the contractor to first level the dug portion of the roads where laying of underground power cabling was undertaken first.
Speaking to reporters, Sarpanch Jeniffer Oliveira informed that she has been receiving complaints from villagers that their vehicles are getting stuck in the dug portion which has been not repaired despite work undertaken several days back.
“Because of the complaints, we have issued warning to the contractor to first repair the dug roads and then take up digging of other roads,” Oliveira informed.
Deputy Sarpanch Domnic Pereira said that the contractor is indiscriminately digging the roads everywhere and not undertaking repairs where the cable laying is completed.
“Now, we have warned the contractor to first repair all the dug roads and we have given him two days to do so. If he fails, then we will stop the work,” Pereira said.
“We also want development works in the village but it has to be done in a systematic manner, without creating troubles for the public,” Pereira pointed out.
