The panchayat finally removed the fence and took up road-widening work along the dangerous curved stretch of the road at Gaondongrim.
CANACONA
The Gaondongrim panchayat has finally succeeded in removing the fence along a dangerous curved stretch of the road which has been responsible for several mishaps in the village for the past two decades at Gaondongrim.
In the presence of Mamlatdar Manoj Korgaonkar, staff of Canacona Dy Collector and a police team, the Gaondongrim Panchayat led by Sarpanch Dhillon (Govind) Dessai engaged a JCB to remove and clear the wooden fence and stone retaining wall along the narrow and treacherous curve towards Tudal at Gaondongrim on Thursday.
Panch and former sarpanch Ashok B Velip commended the sarpanch for doing what no previous panchayat could achieve for two decades, even though accidents continue to take place at the venue.
Sarpanch Dhillon (Govind) Dessai thanked the Canacona administration, especially Dy Collector Ramesh Gaonkar (who is a resident of the village and known to regularly take the same road to reach his residence) and Canacona Mamlatdar Manoj Korgaonkar for responding positively to public grievances leading to the removal of the fence.
It may be recalled that villagers in the gram sabha held soon after the panchayat elections had vociferously demanded quick action to remove the retaining wall and fence along the roadside, which had caused several road mishaps and had also affected the smooth flow of traffic. A resolution had also been passed to do away with a blind turn towards Shri Mallikarjun Devalaya.
The sarpanch had assured to carry out the works as people especially those travelling towards Tudal, Cotigao Netravali and especially to the Bamon-Budo waterfalls were greatly affected.
