While the State imposed curfew will end on May 31, Candolim village panchayat has decided to continue with a ‘partial lockdown’ in the coastal village up to June 6.
“The Candolim panchayat body unanimously resolved to extend the ongoing partial lockdown for another 19 days in the panchayat body meeting held on May 24. All the terms, conditions, dos and don’ts and restrictions remain the same (as announced earlier),” said a public notice signed by Sarpanch Blaize Fernandes and panchayat secretary Lourenco Ribeiro.
Candolim panchayat along with the Calangute panchayat had taken a lead to impose an 11-day lockdown within its jurisdiction on April 29. It was then extended for another 9 days up to May 18.
Later, several village panchayats across the State began to impose similar ‘lockdowns’ within their jurisdictions.
As per the public notice published on a local daily on Thursday, the new restriction of the Candolim panchayat starts from May 19 to the morning of June 6.
The village panchayats imposed the lockdowns as per Section 62 of Goa Panchayat Raj Act ostensibly to control the rising Covid-19 cases and deaths.
